Joseph French is the inventor of French Toast. He invented it in 1724. The French didn’t invent it at all it is named after the man. He should have called the toast French’s Toast but the name stuck as is and no one changed it many people, however, think that it’s from France.   1. In France, French toast is known as β€œpain perdu,” or lost bread. French Toast is fried, not toasted, and didn’t come from France. The French call it β€œpain perdu”. They cook bread in this fashion because it is very bad to waste food, especially bread.
