Although the precise birth of National SCIENCE FICTION Day is somewhat unclear, here’s what we’ve gathered so far regarding its origin story & history. It’s worth noting that some fans and organizations celebrate January 2nd as National SCIENCE FICTION Day in honor of the birthday of Isaac Asimov, a prolific and influential science fiction writer whose contributions to the genre have had a lasting impact. No one knows the precise date Asimov was born as he was the sole survivor of 16 other siblings who all contracted double pneumonia. His family immigrated to America when he was just three years of age and Asimov himself simply celebrates his birthday on January 2.
