The history of National SPOUSES Day proudly got its origin from National MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION Day. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan created a special time for spouses of active military personnel. Military spouses have to provide support, preparedness for duty, and nurture physically and mentally their matesβ well-being. This day is celebrated the Friday before Motherβs day. National SPOUSES Day, however, is celebrated on January 26.
Itβs unclear who the founder was of this holiday but the day itself probably came about because spouses, in general, do so much for each other. This day was probably a day established as a way to show respect and appreciation for your spouse. Itβs a day to offer them gratitude.
A successful marriage is where two people show care, commitment, responsibility, as well as an unspoken determination of putting your mateβs needs before your own and honoring the Lordβs wishes above all else.
Not sure how to LOVE the day? Weβve got a few interesting ideas to consider that may help get you started.
Here are some activities that you can do on National SPOUSES Day!
Since you probably know your spouse best, do something that will WOW them. It could be big or small but let them know how special they are to you. Take time for each other. Connection and friendship help to bolster your relationship.
Of course, tell your spouse you love them! Thank and appreciate them for what they do for you and others. Oftentimes certain things can derail your spouse; theyβre not the way you thought they would always be. Remember your wedding vows but donβt let them abuse you. At times your spouse may need some help dealing with illness or stress they might be under. See if you can be a positive support and be helpful in their life.
Reading a coupleβs Bible, joining a church that offers Bible studies for couples, or visiting Papiβs Proverbs can be insightful into marriage. Also reading literature by Dr Charles Stanley on relationships with your husband or wife could be great. If youβre not of another denomination, country, or spirituality then get a book anyway that can help you and your spouse grow your marital bond.
Catch up on old memories reminiscing about the time when you first got together. Hang photos of your memories and then plan to make more new memories.
I love to make little love notes for him. I do this to let him know I love and appreciate him. Try to make them laugh or smile. Finding ways to let your spouse know you love them doesnβt have to be time-consuming. Both of you might just be VERY busy. Little things add up day by day by showing your love which might be even more important than doing a single seemingly big thing for them.
