Anne Burrell (born September 21, 1969 in Cazenovia, New York) became a popular chef and television personality. Born in upstate New York, she developed a love for cooking early on. After getting a degree in English and communications, she pursued her passion at the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1996.
Anne honed her skills in top New York restaurants, including Felidia and Savoy, and spent a year in Italy studying Italian cuisine. Burrell then moved into teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education before becoming a staple on Food Network.
She gained fame as Mario Batali’s sous chef on Iron Chef America and went on to host her own shows, including Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and the highly successful Worst Cooks in America. She also appeared on many other Food Network programs, like Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay.
Beyond television, Burrell authored cookbooks, including “Cook Like a Rock Star,” and was a strong advocate for diabetes awareness. She’s celebrated for her vibrant energy and ability to teach home cooks complex techniques.
Anne Burrell passed away on June 17, 2025, at the age of 55. Many of her Food Network colleagues and other celebrities, including Chef Robert P Irvine, also shared heartfelt tributes, remembering her energy, teaching ability, and vibrant spirit.
