🎌 COLLECTOR CAR Appreciation Day ORIGIN & HISTORY

It honors the role of automotive restoration and car collecting in American society. Preserving classic cars keeps cultural and historical records alive. COLLECTOR CAR Appreciation Day (CCAD) is celebrated on the 2nd Friday in July.

People celebrate by getting their cars out into the community. Plenty of owners drive their classics straight to work on Friday morning. Car clubs organize local cruises, shops hold open houses, and people gather for casual parking lot meetups.

BIRTH of the Day

The SEMA Action Network – the grassroots branch of the Specialty Equipment Market Association – started this whole thing. They wanted official government recognition for the car hobby. After a failed attempt in 2009, they teamed up with U.S. Senators Jon Tester and Richard Burr. The senators got Senate Resolution 513 passed, making July 9, 2010, the very first official holiday.

REASONS Behind the Holiday

Cars shaped American culture – they changed our music, movies, and how we travel. This day exists to honor that impact.

It also keeps the classic car economy alive. Restoring old rides keeps thousands of small businesses busy, from local upholstery shops to specialized parts makers. If these trades disappear, the cars die out too.

WHY that Particular Day?

The holiday lands on the second Friday in July every year. SEMA picked mid–summer for one simple reason: the weather. July gives owners the perfect opportunity to pull off the car covers, hit the road, and host outdoor shows without worrying about rain or winter salt.

GOALS of CCAD

Keep Skills Alive – Pass down trade skills like metal fabrication, engine tuning, and bodywork to younger generations.
Boost Local Shops – Keep money flowing into independent mechanics, parts suppliers, and detailers.
Share the History – Get rare engineering out of hidden garages and onto public roads for people to see.

Significance in PRESENT Day

As modern cars rely more on computers and electric power, this day matters even more. It keeps the raw, mechanical history of driving alive. It connects regular folks who love the smell of gasoline and old leather, making sure these rolling pieces of art don’t just rust away …
