TOLKIEN READING Day is celebrated on the 25th Day in March to celebrate the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, one of the most famous fantasy authors of all time. The event was first proposed by the Tolkien Society, a UK-based organization devoted to promoting the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien.

The idea for Tolkien Reading Day came about in 2002, during a meeting of the Tolkien Society’s committee. The members of the committee were discussing ways to promote Tolkien’s works and decided that a day dedicated to reading and discussing his books would be a great way to do so.

The date of March 25th was chosen because it is the date of the downfall of Sauron, the main antagonist in Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. This date is also known as Tolkien’s Death Day, as he passed away on this day in 1973.

The first Tolkien Reading Day was held on March 25th, 2003, and it was a huge success. Since then, the event has grown in popularity, and it is now celebrated all over the world.

Each year, the Tolkien Society chooses a different theme for the event, and fans of Tolkien’s works are encouraged to organize their own events and share their thoughts and experiences on social media using the hashtag #TolkienReadingDay.
