They made hit songs like “Dance to the Music,” “Everyday People,” and “Family Affair.” They also played a legendary show at Woodstock in 1969.

By the early 1970s, fame and drug use affected Stone’s career. This led to strange behavior and less activity from the group. He released solo albums and worked with other artists. However, his later career was marked by many struggles. Despite these issues, the reclusive Sly Stone greatly influenced popular music, especially funk and hip-hop. In 2023, he released a memoir called “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).”

Sly Stone passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the age of 82. He died in Los Angeles after a prolonged battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other health issues. His family said, “While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come.”
