๐Ÿฌ National CARAMEL Day ORIGIN & HISTORY

National CARAMEL Day is celebrated on the 5th Day in April and provides an opportunity for people to enjoy caramel treats and desserts, as well as learn more about the history and production of caramel. Whether it’s indulging in a favorite caramel treat or trying out a new caramel recipe, National CARAMEL Day is a fun and tasty way to celebrate this sweet and versatile flavor.

Neither the founder nor the creative origin of this holiday has ever truly been established. Caramel has a long and rich history, dating back thousands of years. Many people think that caramel originated in the United States but actually, caramel can be traced back to the Arabs in 1000 AD.ย  This sweet treat is called Kurat al milh or “sweet ball of salt”. At that time caramel was made by crystallizing sugar in boiling water which produced a crunchy hard candy. This type of confection may be similar to sesame candies found throughout Greece, Asia, and Vietnam … without the sesames of course. Although if you’ve ever tried sesame candy one might say it’s somewhat reminiscent of caramel.

A STICKY History

Even though the Arabs are the first people on record to make caramel, its origin is still unknown. In the mid-1600s Americans used large copper kettles to make toffee and other types of hard candies.ย  Caramel is referred to as caramel or toffee.

Here is a brief overview of the history and evolution of CARAMEL:

  • Ancient civilizations: Caramel was likely first discovered by ancient civilizations in the Middle East and Asia, where sugar cane was grown and refined. Archaeological evidence suggests that caramel was used as a sweetener and coloring agent for food and drink, and was also used for medicinal purposes.
  • Medieval Europe: Caramel became more widely known in Europe during the Middle Ages, where it was used to sweeten desserts and candy. Caramel was also used in alchemy and medicine, as it was believed to have healing properties.
  • Industrial Revolution: With the advent of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, caramel production became more widespread and efficient. Caramel flavored a variety of products, such as candies, ice cream, and baked goods.
  • Modern era: In the 20th century, caramel production became even more advanced, with the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup and other awful sweeteners. Today, caramel is a popular flavor and ingredient in a wide range of food and drink products, from coffee syrups to protein bars.

You make caramel by heating sugar until it melts and turns into a golden-brown color. The addition of butter and cream creates a smooth and creamy texture. This process creates a sweet and rich flavor, as well as a distinctive color and texture. Caramel can be used in a variety of ways, such as an ice cream topping, a filling for chocolates, or a flavoring for coffee.

We โค๏ธ Caramel

We love caramel but dentists say it’s really bad for your teeth. Caramel is very sticky, but unlike other sweets, it will cling to your teeth regardless of regular brushing and flossing. This extended time causes decay by creating an environment in your mouth for bacteria to grow. It also takes out fillings and should be avoided if you have crowns.

If you love caramel, and the majority of people do, then you’ll want to visit the Saint Louis Caramel House. The caramel here is not all sticky and therefore much better for your teeth! Janet is the owner and has diligently created a caramel recipe that’s not only superiorly delicious to other caramels but also isn’t gluey. When it comes to loving caramel, this lady has answered many prayers by creating a product that isn’t too bad for your teeth. Just do regular brushing to get rid of the sweetness.

The Caramel House offers many different kinds of caramels in distinct flavors. She also makes popcorn (a bit healthier treat with fiber and fewer calories), caramel sauces, caramel apples, and other caramel goodies. Save money on dentist fees with these amazing handcrafted caramels using fresh cream and butter formulated by her to not stick to your teeth. Definitely visit her shop in person or online for an unbelievable out-of-this-world caramel. You and your smile can now enjoy caramel regularly on National CARAMEL Day!
