🇺🇸 MISSISSIPPI Day ORIGIN & HISTORY
MISSISSIPPI Day is celebrated on the 30th Day in November.
The state has a rich and unique heritage for its many contributions and all that make it home to the people that live there. The first MISSISSIPPI Day took place on November 30 in 2017. This day is designed to preserve the spirit of Mississippi to the state and to the people that live there.
Mississippi became the 20th state of the union in 1817. Jackson is the capital of Mississippi. Mississippi is naturally well suited for agriculture because of the fertile land from the Mighty Mississippi River. Up until the mid-20th century, the undertones of Mississippi echo an unhurried lifestyle. The large mansions found in the larger towns in the state such as Columbus, Biloxi, Natchez, Vicksburg, and Holly Springs lend to the reason why people of the area appreciate relaxation which makes up some of the Mississippian cultures.
The state is largely agricultural and continues to be so. However in recent years with the advent of modern industrialization and urbanization, the state has had its share of socio-economic woes. Mississippi also continues to be a hotbed for inner racial conflicts, especially during the civil rights movement. Many cotton plantations gave the state its early prosperity when the early European settlers came to the Mississippi. The state had a heavy dependency on black slavery. The white landowners that controlled the region resisted their sense of surrendering their authority even after losing the Civil War. Sadly there exists a certain element of racism that is felt in areas of this state.
Mississippi still has a lot to offer to the people that live or come to visit the state and its lovely antebellum towns. There are fun beaches dotted along the Gulf of Mexico. Mississippi has largely divided economic separation between the wealthy and impoverished people.
The Mississippi Delta was a fertile ground for black musicians after their emancipation. Mississippi is the state where Delta Blues was born., For this reason, the state is also the birthplace of notable forms of jazz, gospel, and rock. Visiting Mississippi can have mixed reviews from people who enjoy it to possibly not be as pleasant as hoped for. There is a lot that the state has to offer and one should not be deterred from exploring the fun and historical sites and towns that are in Mississippi.

- Mississippi is a Native American word that means “great waters” or “father of waters”.
- Square dancing is Mississippi’s state dance.
- Rootbeer originates from Biloxi Mississippi. Edward Barq won his first taste of flavor fame at the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. Here he won a gold medal for a drink he created called “Orangine”. Five years later, he opened up Biloxi Artesian Bottling Works and is where he perfected a new drink flavor called Barq’s Root Beer. Barq’s is different from other root beers out on the market because he used sarsaparilla instead of sassafras and put in more caffeine and less sugar than other brands. This gave it the famous “Barq’s Bite”.
- The Mississippi state flag is only one of three that feature “In God We Trust”, which is the USA’s national motto including Georgia and Florida.
